On the ground, in the conversation.

Howmation lives beyond YouTube: at IFA Berlin, at the manufacturers' table, and at the heart of the French-speaking smart-home conversation.

About

Solo, no middlemen, since day one.

I'm Valentin Goudet. I shoot, edit and publish Howmation alone. No agency, no ghostwriter, no team behind the scenes. Everything you see on screen comes out of my studio.

Howmation came from a gap. To learn smart home seriously in French, you either had to switch to English content, or settle for tutorials that narrated clicks without rigour, without context, without the "why". I wanted something else: French-language content that owns the technical depth, uses the right terms instead of lazy anglicisms, and takes the time to explain fundamentals without talking down to beginners.

That standard ended up showing. Manufacturers consult me before launching their products, industry leaders meet with me to discuss what's coming next, and Shelly picked me as their official France ambassador for 2026.

Topics covered

Four editorial territories.

Howmation focuses on four major technical areas, covered in depth, without scattering.

01

Smart home & Home Assistant

Configurations, automations, protocol bridges, dashboards, advanced integrations.

02

Home networking

From multi-AP Wi-Fi to advanced routing, including IPv6, VLANs, and perimeter security.

03

Homelab & self-hosting

Home servers, containers, backups, self-hosted services as cloud replacements.

04

Security & privacy

Cameras, alarms, access control, encryption, everything that separates a smart home from a digital sieve.

Method

Four rules. No exceptions.

Howmation wouldn't exist if I compromised on these four points. They define what I publish, what I refuse, and why my audience stays.

Real testing, not product sheets

No product appears in a video without running in my home for several weeks. If I haven't tested it myself, I don't cover it.

Long format, no clickbait

My videos run between 10 and 30 minutes. That's the time it takes to dig into a topic seriously, and exactly what my audience comes here for.

Editorial independence

No brand rewrites my scripts. No press release gets read on screen. When I turn down a collaboration, it's because it would add nothing for my viewers.

An audience that acts

My click-to-purchase conversion rate is 2 to 7 times above the niche benchmark. When I recommend a product, my credibility is on the line, and my audience knows it.

Key figures

An audience that acts, not one that scrolls.
